It is believed to have started sometime in the 1980's and has grown more and more frequent as the years have gone by. Children are exhibiting abilities both strange and wonderful... and to most parents, quite frightening. How did your 5-year-old son know about your dead brother... and that his favorite color was orange? How does your little girl know when you're emotionally distressed, even though you try your damnedest to hide it? Congratulations, it's an Indigo Child! Unfortunately, not every parent knows about this phenomenon, so they spend years wondering why their kids don't do well in school even though they know they're exceptionally smart, or why they can't seem to identify with most of their peers. It can be very frustrating to both parent and child.
Most Indigo Children have difficult childhoods. They're often outcast since, as common as this phenomenon seems to be, they're very different from other people. They don't respond well to authority, or any kind of hierarchy for that matter. They might refuse to conform to trends and rules. They simply don't like being told what to do. This is why they're often more difficult to raise than other children. So they spend their childhood misunderstood. The results can be tragic. They may become angry and hateful in their teen years, and turn to drugs and alcohol to escape. An Indigo Child is an emotionally fragile being.
Awareness is the best preventative measure in this case. If you know anyone 30 years or younger who seems exceptionally intelligent and sensitive to energy (psychic), they might be an Indigo. As for parents, the best thing you can do is nurture their special strengths and weaknesses.
